What is Tajweed?
✅ Tajweed: To beautify, to make excellent, to make beautiful.
✅ The term Tajweed means to read the Holy Quran in a beautiful and refined manner. The pronunciation of the letter “with all the attributes” from the “makharij” prescribed by the experts is called Tajweed.
✅ Here’s a breakdown of what Tajweed entails:
✅ Makharij al-Huroof (مخارج الحروف): The points of articulation of each Arabic letter – where in the mouth, throat, or nose the sound originates.
✅ Sifaat al-Huroof (صفات الحروف): The characteristics of each letter, such as whether it is heavy or light, whether it involves airflow or vibration, etc.
✅ Rules of Noon Saakin and Tanween (أحكام النون الساكنة والتنوين): How the letter “noon” with a sukoon (no vowel) and tanween (double vowel ending with an “n” sound) are pronounced when followed by different letters. This includes rules like Izhaar (clear pronunciation), Idghaam (merging), Iqlaab (conversion), and Ikhfaa (concealment).
✅ Rules of Meem Saakin (أحكام الميم الساكنة): Similar to the rules of Noon Saakin, these govern the pronunciation of “meem” with a sukoon.
✅ Rules of Madd (أحكام المد): The rules of elongation of vowel sounds.
✅ Rules of Qalqalah (أحكام القلقلة): The rules of echoing certain letters when they have a sukoon.
✅ Rules of Ghunnah (أحكام الغنة): The rules of nasalization of the letters “meem” and “noon.”
✅ Rules of Waqf and Ibtida’ (أحكام الوقف والابتداء): The rules of where to pause and restart recitation.
✅ Rules of Tafkheem and Tarqeeq (أحكام التفخيم والترقيق): When to pronounce letters with a “heavy” (full mouth) sound and when to pronounce them with a “light” (empty mouth) sound.
